Milei Urges Resignation of Buenos Aires Governor

Argentinian President Javier Milei called for the resignation of Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, blaming him for the province's violence and failure to address security issues, amidst calls for intervention.

The Argentine president, Javier Milei, urged the governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, to resign from his position to allow for national government intervention and to end the violence affecting the region. Milei argued that their differences in approach to the security problem hinder effective collaboration, as Kicillof views criminals as victims, while the Executive sees them as responsible for their actions.

In his post titled 'Bloodbath in PBA (province of Buenos Aires) and Kicillof's incompetence,' Milei expressed his discontent and called on the governor to step aside to allow for intervention. This call comes after Kicillof's request to work together with the national government to address security issues, following the tragic murder of a 7-year-old girl during a robbery in La Plata.

In response to Kicillof, Milei maintained his firm stance demanding the governor's resignation so that the national government could intervene in the province. Additionally, the president called for the return of cut funds belonging to the Fiscal Strengthening Fund, arguing that budget cuts hinder security management.

The province of Buenos Aires, with nearly half of the country's population, has historically been one of the most violent areas in Argentina. Despite a slight decrease in homicides in 2023 compared to 2019, violence levels remain concerning. Milei committed to addressing this issue and assured that they would reduce violence in the region within a year.
